Homeschool Sidekick Terms of Service

Sidekick helps homeschooling parents check their children’s math. You, or a child you allow, take a photo of a finished math page. Sidekick reads the handwriting, checks each answer, and marks it correct or needs work. When it can’t read an answer clearly, it asks you with a “check me” instead of guessing.

The Service also keeps a record for each child of what they have mastered and what is worth a review, builds reports, goals and a pace for the year from your school calendar, makes printable practice sheets from missed problems, and offers Echo Spelling, a spelling practice game for children with a sign-in.

Sidekick is not a curriculum and does not teach. You keep the curriculum you chose and you do the teaching.

AI reads the handwriting on each page, and ordinary code checks the math. Handwriting can be misread, and a page can be graded incorrectly: an answer may be marked needs work when it is correct, or correct when it needs work. Please look over results before you rely on them. You can change any mark, and your change is the one that counts.

Marks, mastery, reports and pacing are there to help you teach. They are not official assessments, grades of record or transcripts, and they are not a substitute for your own judgment. You remain responsible for any records your state’s homeschool laws require you to keep.

• You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
• You may add a child only if you are that child’s parent or legal guardian, or you have the parent’s or guardian’s permission to use the Service for that child.
• Your Sidekick account is the same account you use for Homestake, our other product: one email address and one password sign you in to both, and a change made in one changes it in the other.
• You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity under your account, including activity under the child sign-ins you create.
• You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it current.
• Tell us promptly at hello@homeschoolsidekick.app if you believe someone has used your account without your permission.

• Children do not create their own accounts. You add each child, and you decide whether a child gets a sign-in of their own. You choose the child’s username and password, and you can see the password again, change it, or turn the sign-in off at any time.
• You choose what a child with a sign-in can do: whether they can snap their own pages, and whether they see a page’s results right away or only after you review and release them.
• You are responsible for your children’s use of the Service and for supervising it in a way that suits their age.
• Other adults in your family account can see and manage your children’s records in the Service.

The photos you or your children upload should be of your family’s own schoolwork. You are responsible for what you upload. Please don’t upload photos of people, identity documents, other families’ work, or anything unrelated to schoolwork.

You keep ownership of your photos and your children’s work. You grant Homestake Digital LLC the limited right to store, copy and process them, including sending them to the service providers named in our Privacy Policy, solely to provide the Service to you.

The printed problems on your pages belong to their publishers. Sidekick keeps only what it needs to check answers and never republishes a publisher’s pages or answer keys.

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation.
• Upload content you do not have the right to upload, or content that is not schoolwork.
• Attempt to access another family’s data, or any part of the Service you have not been given access to.
• Attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its underlying systems.
• Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service or its outputs in a manner not permitted by these Terms.

• Sidekick does not take payment today, and we do not collect payment details.
• Each family has a plan with a monthly allowance of graded pages. The free plan includes 10 graded pages a month. The app shows how many you have used this month.
• A page counts toward your allowance only when Sidekick graded at least part of it. A page that came back entirely for you to grade, or one we could not grade at all, does not count.
• For now, grading does not stop when you reach your allowance. That may change when paid plans begin.
• Before we offer paid plans, we will publish their prices and update these Terms. You will be charged only if you choose a paid plan.
• Some families in our early pilot have plans we granted them. We may change or end a granted plan with reasonable notice.

Homeschool Sidekick and Homestake are both products of Homestake Digital LLC, and they share one account system. Using Sidekick does not start Homestake: you can choose to start a free Homestake trial from the app, and your use of Homestake is governed by the Homestake Terms of Service and the Homestake Privacy Policy.

The Service, including its software, design, characters and branding, is owned by Homestake Digital LLC and protected by intellectual property laws. Homeschool Sidekick is a trademark of Homestake Digital LLC. Your photos and your children’s work remain yours.

The Service relies on third-party providers, including Supabase, OpenRouter, Google, Anthropic, Fly.io, Vercel, Resend and Sentry, to operate. Our Privacy Policy says exactly what each one receives. Your use of the Service is also subject to those providers’ terms where applicable. We are not responsible for the availability or practices of third-party services.

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. AI-generated outputs, including marks, notes on mistakes, mastery and pacing, may contain errors, omissions, or inaccuracies, and should not be relied upon as a substitute for your own review of your child’s work or for professional advice. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Homestake Digital LLC and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.

You may stop using the Service at any time. You can delete your family’s Sidekick data from Settings: the deletion happens 7 days after you ask, and you can cancel it until then. Because your account is shared with Homestake, deleting your family’s Sidekick data does not close the account itself; to close it, write to us at hello@homeschoolsidekick.app.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or use the Service in a way that creates legal risk or harm to Homestake Digital LLC, children, or others. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination, including ownership, disclaimers, and limitation of liability, will survive.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Dakota, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be brought only in the state or federal courts located in South Dakota, and you and Homestake Digital LLC consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
